Will Poulter Wore a Trash Bag to 'Catch All the Gold Juice' While Removing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Makeup
As reported by PEOPLE, star Will Poulter recently reflected on the extensive process that went into getting into and out of his Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 character. During an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, the Midsommar actor went into detail about transforming into MCU character Adam Warlock for the third installment of the Guardians film franchise.
Poulter noted that he spent a “couple hours” a day in the makeup chair in order to take on the appearance of the golden Adam Warlock. Likewise, he stated that at the end of the day, it took an additional hour to remove all the shiny paint from his body, and according to the British star, the removal process also involved him wearing a trash bag.
He told PEOPLE, “It took a lot of wipes, soap, hot towels and just anything that’ll get it off. I was just using absolutely anything. And you wear a bin liner while you do it just to catch all the gold juice, as it were.”
Poulter continued, adding, “And maybe you live with a little bit of gold nail polish for a little while after you finish work. No big deal.”
While further reflecting on his MCU look, the We’re the Millers star said, “There’s a lot of work behind all of that. It was really amazing to watch professionals at the top of their game just execute at that level every morning and every night. It was very, very cool. [The hair-and-makeup team and I] spent a lot of time together. They make the start and end of your day such a fun place to be.”
Will Poulter Used His Time Transforming Into Adam Warlock to Bond With Other MCU Stars That Went Through a Similarly Lengthy Makeup Process
Additionally, the actor noted that his lengthy makeup process gave him time to bond with other Guardians stars like Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff, who similarly all went through an extensive makeup and prosthetic process for their MCU characters.
Poulter said, “It is really funny swapping stories with Dave and Zoe about the makeup and whatnot, and the experience of it because they have even more, and Karen — they have even more intense experiences of makeup than I do. But they were able to give me little tips here and there. Or just their solidarity in being in that makeup.”
Still, despite the extensive process it took the actor to get into character, Poulter said he has no regrets about playing Adam Warlock. He stated, “I’m probably not going to be wearing it in my day-to-day life, but it definitely helped me feel like the character, and I hope it is something that satisfies people’s expectations of Adam Warlock.”
He finished by saying, “And I’m so lucky to be in this movie and to play this character that I would’ve done even more time in the chair in order to play him.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters tomorrow, May 5th.
