Since 2022, White has been playing Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto on Hulu’s original series “The Bear,” a chef who worked at upscale Michelin-starred restaurants before returning to his hometown of Chicago to take over his family’s sandwich shop. In the aftermath of his brother’s death, Carmy has to work with the difficult, headstrong Richie (Ebon Moss-Bacharach), his brother’s best friend, and make sure the shop doesn’t go under while trying to teach the staff what he’s learned in the world of fine dining.
White struck gold with this role — “The Bear” was immediately hailed as one of the year’s best shows, and White has received a ton of acclaim for his central role as Carmy. At the 2023 Golden Globes, White beat out heavyweights Bill Hader, Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Donald Glover to win Best Performance in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy, and he also won in the same category at the Critic’s Choice Awards and the Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. With season 2 of “The Bear” on the horizon, White has work lined up for a while — and considering he’s still young, there’s no doubt he has a bright future beyond this series.
