Investigation Discovery has handed out season renewals to both The Playboy Murders and Death by Fame.
Two shows at Investigation Discovery have just been officially renewed. Deadline reports that the true crime documentary shows The Playboy Murders and Death by Fame have been renewed, bringing each of them to season 2. Both shows are currently in the midst of their respective freshman seasons and will both air their season finales on Feb. 27. Jason Sarlanis, president of Turner Networks, ID and HLN’s Linear and Streaming content, addressed the dual renewals in a statement, touting their high viewership.
“This year, ID has seen incredible momentum in the true crime space delivering an unparalleled combination of top returning series and new hit shows both on cable and streaming,” Sarlanis said. “Building off this strong foundation, we are excited to share and build an outstanding programming slate as we move forward.”
The Playboy Murders comes from former Playboy model Holly Madison, whose history with Playboy includes previously starring in the Playboy Mansion-set reality series The Girls Next Door. Madison executive produces the series, which delves into some of the Playboy Mansion’s darkest secrets. That includes the murder for a former model and other dark stories related to Hugh Hefner and Playboy’s history.
Investigation Discovery Orders More True Crime with The Playboy Murders and Death by Fame Renewals
Death by Fame is a show led by criminal defense attorney Sara Azari. The six-part docuseries goes behind the scenes to “uncover the sinister side of fame and reveal the shocking true stories behind the rise, fall and murder of some of Hollywood’s most promising stars,” per ID. Azari breaks down different cases involving different Hollywood stars, joined by different industry insiders, entertainment reporters, and legal experts. Some of the cases touched on in the first season include the death of sex therapist Dr. Amie Harwick, the killing of The Voice tandout Christina Grimmie, and the disappearance of Macedonian model Adea Shabani shortly after her arrival in Los Angeles.
Ahead of the two shows premiering on ID last month, Sarlanis touted their arrival by announcing in a statement, “Starting this January, ID is moving right into the center of the pop culture conversation by unpacking how fascination with celebrity can quickly twist into an obsession with devastating results. With two new gripping series, we’ll explore some of the most shocking crimes in pop culture history.”
The second seasons of The Playboy Murders and Death by Fame don’t yet have premiere dates, but both shows will air their season 1 finales on Monday, Feb. 27 on ID.
