‘One day’ – Man Utd target drops ‘ambition’ hint as club prepares for barrage of summer bids

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has admitted that playing in the Premier League is “an ambition of all players” amidst reported interest from Man Utd.

The Serie A club are expected to receive a lot of summer interest in the Nigerian international.

He has been unplayable this season, scoring 19 goals in 20 league matches as his side look set to end their long wait for a Serie A title.

Osimhen has formed an incredible partnership with Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia – who is also being linked with a move to the Premier League.

Napoli are one of the very few Italian sides not in a place where they need to sell their best players and it would be unimaginable to envision them selling both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia in the same summer.

Having said that, they could receive around £100million for each player and will probably find it hard to turn down offers in that region.

Man Utd are in dire need of a new no. 9 and are expected to sign one at the end of the season following the November exit of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Erik ten Hag signed Wout Weghorst on loan until the end of 2022-23, though the Dutchman is expected to be nothing more than a stop-gap.

Osimhen looks like he would be a superb signing for the Red Devils – who remain linked with the Napoli star.

The Nigerian striker has now added fuel to the fire, claiming that a move to the Premier League is an “ambition” of his, though he was quick to emphasise his love for Napoli.

“I think it is an ambition of all players,” the 24-year-old told Corriere Della Sera when asked about a move to the Premier League in the future.

“And who knows, one day.

“Right now, I assure you, it doesn’t even cross my mind. It would distract me from a beautiful season. [I’m thinking of] Only Napoli.”

Lazio legend Bruno Giordano has been high in praise of Osimhen, first comparing him to Ciro Immobile and then Cristiano Ronaldo

“Both have the same stubbornness and play every ball as if it were the last of their careers,” Giordano said, as cited by Napoli Magazine.

“They never spare themselves, this is their common quality.

“However, Osimhen is second to none in the world when it comes to headers, only Cristiano Ronaldo is on the same level.”

Man Utd are expected to face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for Osimhen’s signature.

According to Calciomercato, the Blues’ pursuit ‘has come back to life in recent days’.

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly will reportedly double the player’s €4.5m-a-year salary, with a bid of €120-130m necessary to sign him.
