A non-governmental organisations, Mercy Corp has Saturday, organised a one-day community dialogue with community members from Gwange and Damaturu Central wards in Damaturu local government area of Yobe state on Covid-19 access programme.
The program tagged: “Covid-19 Vaccine access program” covering Damaturu and Potiskum LGAs in the state was aimed at improving Covid-19 vaccinations coverage by increasing vaccine confidence, acceptance and uptake in vulnerable communities in the State.
Speaking during the dialogue session, some of the community members from Gwange, Gaji Mohammed and Hafsat Sale, said people neglected the vaccine as a result of a rumour that the vaccine prevents women from getting pregnant.
Also Alhaji Baba Ali revealed that, cancer is one of the factor people refused to take the vaccine as people believed that it causes one to loss his life after taking the injection.
For Abubakar Mohammed, Hadiza Chiroma and Hauwa Lawan from Damaturu central community said most people didn’t believe in the existence of the virus.
On her part the Marcy Corp deputy programme manager,Covid-19 vaccine access program, Kauna Sugabkya called for frequent meeting with the community members to discuss way forward, need for behavioural change and create awareness campaign through local radio and TV station on the program.
