Ireland vs South Africa LIVE Rugby: Latest International Autumn Updates

Ireland will aim to further mark their World Cup ambitions as they host South Africa in their first autumn international in Dublin today.

It’s been five years since the countries last met, with Ireland winning 38-3 in 2017, but they will also meet again next year in the World Cup group stage. Ireland is still fresh from a historic series win over the All Blacks in New Zealand last summer and will be among the favorites in France next year. They have built a formidable reputation under Andy Farrell and have become one of the most reliable teams in world rugby.

The Springboks aren’t as terrifying as the side that won the Webb Ellis Trophy in 201, and failed to capture the rugby championship this year as New Zealand triumphed, but they will still provide a huge test and today’s encounter could help to set the tone for that fight next year.

H/T: Ireland 6-6 South Africa

Squeeze and bite. A real scandal in Dublin where neither side can unlock the other with any regularity. The battle between the South African defense and Ireland’s attack was fascinating, with the Springboks leading the way, but the home side’s goal-line defense was rock solid.

It’s been intense and it’s unlikely to get less physical from here.

Poached! James Ryan stands up front and steals Malcolm Marx’s lineout throw from Eben Etzebeth’s grasp.

Jimmy O’Brien does a really good job of getting a firm enough space from his left boot then.

A physical competition really takes its toll – Tadhg Furlong is the last to fall to the ground and receive treatment.

Conor Murray makes a half break and sees the space as the South African lineout tail defenders rush forward to try and intercept the pass that never comes.

Ireland toils away in the 22 of the Springboks, with Frans Malherbe picked up for a no-arms tackle. Johnny Sexton will most likely bring the home side back to the forefront.

A free kick to South Africa, and Damian Willemse briefly brain farts, starts his run to kick, but pauses when he sees Andrew Porter approaching, as the gag may do. Willemse remembers the law just in time, hastily chopping away an eviction.
