APC kicks as PDP wins all seats in Oyo LGA poll

Shittu alleges Makinde organised most fraudulent poll

Candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have won all 33 chairmanship and councillorship positions of the council elections held across the state, at the weekend.

Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Isaika Olagunju, while announcing the results, yesterday, said that the conduct of the election was free, fair, credible and violence-free. He lauded the people of the state for participating in the election.

MEANWHILE, Oyo State Government has said that the victory of all People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the council election organised by Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) on Saturday across the 33 local councilswas predictable.

A statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, after the announcement of the results, said that the outstanding performance of Governor Seyi Makinde in the last five years was the major reason the election turned out to be one-sided.

The commissioner also attributed the election result to the quality of the candidates the ruling party presented. Oyelade, who said that the opposition party started rehearsing their complaints barely 30 minutes to the commencement of the elections, charged them to behave like sportsmen and stop mixing fantasy with democracy.

He, however, lauded the commitment of the security team, the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) chairman and his team for daring to make a difference after the challenges of the past two local council elections.

HOWEVER, a former Minister of Communications and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Adebayo Shittu, yesterday, allegedthat Makinde had organised the fraudulent local council election in the history of the state. Shittu accused Makinde of withholding election materials from all polling units throughout the state.
