Bruce Campbell Teases the Future of the Evil Dead Franchise, New Project 'Every Two or Three Years'
B-movie icon Bruce Campbell has offered some exciting insight into future plans for the beloved Evil Dead franchise, revealing that he, filmmaker Sam Raimi, and his brother Ivan Raimi, are now working on an “Evil Dead Bible.” Rather than resurrect the souls of the damned like a certain Book of the Dead, the Evil Dead Bible will instead contain plans for the series, with Campbell stating to AV Club that the trio hopes to release a new project “every two or three years.”
“The only problem with that is that it can get out of hand and if we jump into that world too quickly, it’s hard to get it back. I think the stories will progress a little more now. We’re going to try and do them more like every two or three years rather than every 10 years. It’s also the first time Sam is working with his brother Ivan to create an overall Bible that will give future writers and directors an idea of where this thing should go next to potentially tie in some of these stories. So I think it’s going to get a little more tied in as the years go by. But because it’s all about the books. It could be a book in the past, a book in the future. It’s yet to be determined.”
Kick-starting both Raimi and Campbell’s career way back in 1981, The Evil Dead has spawned a franchise that includes sequels, remakes, small screen spinoffs, comics, and video games, and with the horror series set to return to theaters with the imminent Evil Dead Rise, Campbell and the Raimi’s clearly have big plans for Ash and the Deadites. While Evil Dead staple Bruce Campbell will not feature in Evil Dead Rise, the actor is on board as an executive producer.
The Evil Dead Franchise Continues with Evil Dead Rise
The world of the Evil Dead will soon return to theaters with this week’s Evil Dead Rise. And it certainly sounds like the franchise’s big screen comeback is off to a good start. Written and directed by Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground), Evil Dead Rise will take audiences back into the iconic world of the Deadites for this fifth outing in the beloved franchise. The story begins when a road-weary woman named Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment.
The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.
Starring Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie and Lily Sullivan as Beth alongside Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis, Tai Wano, Jayden Daniels, and Billy Reynolds-McCarthy, Evil Dead Rise had originally been scheduled for a digital release on HBO Max, but the movie will instead be released theatrically, with Evil Dead Rise now due to land on the big screen on April 21, 2023, courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures.
