CHICAGO (UKTN) – A Maywood man is charged with breaking and entering two businesses and stealing lottery tickets worth $6,000, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart announced on Saturday.
Sheriff’s Police Detectives, with the help of Franklin Park Police Detectives, arrested Dion Johnson, of the 800 block of South 13th Avenue in Maywood Tuesday.
Johnson was identified as the suspect who broke into a deli and stole $6,327 worth of scratch cards on the day of his arrest.
He was also identified as the suspect who previously broke into a hardware store in Franklin Park and took several tools.
Detectives used video footage from both locations and from a nearby gas station, with Johnson using a rock to break into each location and retrieve the stolen items.
Footage also identified the vehicle with stolen license plates that Johnson used during each break-in. Detectives recovered narcotics from Johnson during the arrest after he tried to dispose of them.
A name search of Johnson was conducted and returned with an active burglary warrant from DuPage County.
Johnson appeared before a hearing at the Maywood Courthouse on Thursday. He was charged with burglary and was given $75,000 bail and $15,000 bail for manufacturing and supplying less than 15 grams of cocaine and was denied bail for the shoplifting.
He remains in custody.
