It’s hard to imagine “The Grand Budapest Hotel” without its lush pinks, blues, and purples, nor “The French Dispatch” minus its muted, earthy hues. The “Asteroid City” color work is Anderson’s most eye-popping in years and harkens back to the vibrant colors of ’50s cinema, much to the joy of eager fans.
“I like how the aesthetics Anderson goes for in ‘Asteroid City’ [have] the colors and vibe of old 1950s vacation postcards,” @ANateForFate posted. Meanwhile, @DrunkEnough, compared the movie to a “living comic book.” @rachelnmsu added that the “Asteroid City” aesthetic captures the overwhelming brightness of a sun-drenched desert where one has to squint to get a better view.
“The color [palette] and almost blinding brightness of it all actually do sort of replicate what can be so exhausting about living in a desert town,” they wrote. “The constant cloudless blue sky starts to feel mind-numbing after a while for me, and I think he’s done a great job of capturing that feeling.”
Fans of Anderson are certainly excited for his latest film. Specifically the visual storytelling is living up to their high expectations, as is the stellar cast. Perhaps @stacher said it best.
“Take me down to the ‘Asteroid City’ where the cast is large and the colors pretty.”
