8 Indian Navy officers arrested in Qatar were sent to jail

Qatar sent 8 ex-Indian Navy personnel to jail on charges of spying for Israel.

According to Al Jazeera, 8 former Indian Navy officers arrested in Qatar in August have been sent to jail, all of them are accused of spying for Israel.

The first hearing of the case against the former Indian Navy officers was held in March, while according to Al Arabiya, the hearing of the case is to be held today (May 3) in Doha.

According to Indian media, these officers were apparently working for Zahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services, a private firm that provides other services, including consulting on acquiring Italian submarines based on the latest technology. The special thing about these Italian submarines is this. That they cannot be seen on radar.

According to media reports, Qatar has shut down Zahra Global and 75 Indian nationals working in the company have been told that their last day of employment will be May 31. However, no response has come from Qatar and India on this matter.

According to Al Jazeera, Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding with Italian shipbuilding firm Fincantieri SPA in 2020 to build submarines as part of a larger project to build a naval base and maintain its military fleet. However, this memorandum of understanding was allegedly not implemented.
