The event, hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, is part of the WTT Contender Series and is one of three WTT events scheduled in Africa this year.

Lagos has earned a reputation as a prime destination for hosting the WTT Contender Series, and this year’s event will offer ranking points for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The final calendar released by WTT confirms that the 2024 WTT Contender Lagos will feature some of the best table tennis players from around the world.

Dr. Kweku Tandoh, the Event Director of the WTT Contender Lagos, expressed his satisfaction with WTT’s approval for Lagos to host the tournament again, indicating the high level of performance in 2023. The positive response from the WTT management, players, and coaches highlights the success of the maiden edition and underscores the enthusiasm for returning to Lagos for the upcoming event.

“We are indeed overwhelmed with the impressive appraisal by the management of WTT, of the maiden edition in 2023. Apart from the WTT team, the players and coaches are eager to return to Lagos following the massive support from the Lagos fans as well as the warm hospitality of Lagosians,” said Tandoh.

The WTT Contender Lagos is expected to build on the success of the previous year, with plans to enhance the experience for players, coaches, and fans.

Tandoh, who also serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), acknowledged the support of the Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for providing the conducive environment that has allowed table tennis to flourish in the state.

Lagos will be the first African city to host a WTT Series event in 2024, with Tunis hosting the second WTT Series later in the year.

The event will further solidify Lagos’s position as a key location on the world table tennis map, showcasing the city’s vibrant energy and the enthusiasm of its sports community.
