Scores of Edo youths dump LP for AAC
The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South, Dan Orbih, yesterday, denounced his membership of the PDP Campaign Council for the Edo State governorship election, which was announced a few days ago by the party.
He made the denouncement of his membership at his country home, in Ogbona, Etsako Central Council of Edo State during the Edo North PDP (legacy) leaders’ stakeholders meeting.
He said that the current PDP, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, and his choice candidate, Asue Ighodalo, cannot lead Edo State, adding that the PDP legacy group would vote for a candidate, who would represent the people of the state.
Besides, Orbih stressed that the PDP legacy group is the foundation of the PDP, anchored on unity, fairness, justice and equity, saying that since Obaseki came into the party in 2020, he has abandoned the group, which worked and voted for his re-election. He said: “I am not part of the PDP campaign council. In 2020, we came out in Edo North to support the election and re-election of Obaseki.
“I worked with Obaseki to deliver him. People ask me where we are today, and what the way forward is.
“Today, I can boldly tell you that the issue before us is about what the way forward is. I can tell you that all is not well with Edo State PDP.”Orbih expressed displeasure over the removal of the former Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, describing it as political. He said that the legacy PDP group is solidly behind the ex-deputy governor.
MEANWHILE, the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the September 21 Edo gubernatorial election, Oberaifo Udoh, yesterday, said that the party could resist the ruling PDP and opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) with its massive youth population and supporters across Edo.
He spoke in Benin City during a welcome reception to receive defectors from the Labour Party to the AAC, as well as the unveiling of its Deputy Governorship candidate, Lord Osas Osunde, a former chieftain of the Labour Party (LP).
He said that the AAC is more than ever committed to ensuring youth participation and emancipation, particularly in terms of enthroning good governance in the state as against politics of godfathers, which has underdeveloped the state.
The gubernatorial candidate added that in achieving the needed development of the state, youths must take leadership role, noting that state boasts of a youth population of over 70 per cent.
